Sponsor a Child.
Currently, Amigos is very fortunate to have more interested sponsors than we have children and teens with available sponsorship slots. If you are interested in supporting in a similar manner, we encourage you to look into our new Sponsor a Hogar program.
If sponsoring a child in need is truly what connects to your heart, contact Karen Caddy to be added to a waiting list for our Sponsor a Child program: karen@amigosdejesus.org.
About Sponsor a Child
Sponsoring a child is one of the most direct ways you can change the life of a young person in need. Amigos de Jesús supports 150 children, youth, and young adults living at our Hogar (Home) in Honduras.
As a Padrino (Godparent), you will receive periodic updates about your godchild throughout the year, including an annual photo and handwritten letter from your child. You are encouraged to correspond with your godchild through our U.S. office and to get to know your godchild as he or she grows and benefits through your generosity.
It is $360, or $30/month, to sponsor a child for one year. Have questions? Interested in sponsoring? Contact Karen Caddy at karen@amigosdejesus.org
More details…
-
At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Amigos cared for more than 150 children, teens, and young adults. As restrictions loosen and life moves forward, nearly 20 children and young adults have re-integrated with family or moved towards independence. These young people no longer need the full support of Amigos, and are no longer sponsorable. We anticipate opening our home to new arrivals in the future.
-
Amigos children may have up to six sponsors per child - as they say, “It takes a village.” Depending on a child’s age, it costs about $8,000 to fully care for one child at Amigos de Jesús for one year. Sponsorship dollars pay a portion of this cost. Sponsors may also need to end their support as their situation changes, and having additional sponsors means no child is ever left without support or a connection.
-
You can end your sponsorship at any time by calling the U.S. office (610-644-8237) or emailing Karen Caddy at karen@amigosdejesus.org. We understand that situations may change, this is one of the reasons that we have multiple sponsors for each child. Your child will still be fully supported by Amigos even if you need to end your sponsorship donations.
-
Absolutely! Our children love to receive letters, cards, and photos from you. Letters can be mailed to our U.S. office to be translated as needed and forwarded to Honduras. You may also send an email for your child to karen@amigosdejesus.org for forwarding.
Mail to: Amigos de Jesús | PO Box 476 | Malvern, PA 19355
We do not forward personal contact information (like a return address) to the children. Please label the envelope you wish the child to open with the child’s name, and place it within an outer envelope that you mail to the U.S. office.
-
Small items that fit within a 9”x12” envelope can be sent to the children. Please understand that sharing is a fundamental value of Amigos, and the children will share the extras and treats that they receive.
Small coloring books, journals, stickers, word puzzles, matchbox cars, bracelets, and hair ribbons are some examples of acceptable treats to send.
We encourage you to make a donation to the Friends Fund in honor of your child’s birthday or at Christmas to contribute to birthday and Christmas celebrations.
